YOUTH BACK TO FARM

INTRODUCTION

The youth back to farm project (YBTF) is a project of African Youth International
Development Foundation (AFYIDEF) in collaboration with African Union –
Economic, Social Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC). The YBTF project will be used
to increase youths’ participation in agricultural activities. It will also help increase
agricultural productivity and production, improve processing and marketing, foster
job creation and increase household income and livelihood of young farmers

Nigeria population continue to grow, much more effort and innovation will be
urgently needed in order to sustainably increase agricultural production, improve the
nation food supply, decrease food wastage, and ensure that all who are suffering from
hunger and malnutrition have access to nutritious food.

The project will contribute immensely to the development of Nigerian agricultural
sector by boosting yields on the existing agricultural lands, including restoration of
degraded lands through sustainable agricultural practices

OVERALL GOAL:

To increase youth participation in agricultural activities, increase food production,
improve processing and marketing, foster job creation and increase household
income and living standard of Young farmers.

PROBLEMS ADDRESSED: Youth Unemployment, Food Shortage, Rural-Urban
Migration, Poor Storage Facility, Access to Finance, Marketing, Extreme Poverty,
Hunger and Malnutrition etc.

SCOPE OF PROJECT/COVERAGE:

Across the 6 geo-political zones in Nigeria

TARGETED GROUP

The targeted population is basically the young people (between age 18 and 40)
especially those living in the rural areas and those who are out of school. This
program will also be extended to NYSC members and under-graduate students who
have interest in agriculture

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

Major activities will include conferences, agricultural discussion forum, establishment
of young farmers’ club, training on modern agricultural practices, workshops and
seminars, establishment of agricultural co-operatives
